Rock´n´Roll - Reports

Beate and Andreas Wolf

Beate and Andreas Wolf are European Champions 1999!

A report from the European Championships Rock'n'Roll 1999
in Bremen / Germany

(deutsche Version)

Now they own every title

Bremen, September 18th 1999, shortly before midnight they took their place at the top of the European Rock'n'Roll in the Maritim Congress Centrum in Bremen, Germany. By winning the European Championship 1999 they have completed their collection of titles in Rock'n'Roll. They had been german champions more than once, had won the German Masters, the World Masters and the German Open, and have even been World Champions. And now, after having paused from Rock'n'Roll competitions for nearly one year, the have raclaimed their position - and they don't have forgotten anything!

The dancers comeback

Not only the Wolfs have had their comeback in Bremen. Roman Kolb is back also, with a new partner, Gabriela Masinova! They don't have the same flair and routine as Roman and Michaela Vecerova had - not yet! - but they are one of the top couples even now, and so they made the second place. Like the Wolfs their performance contains many, very exactly done dancing elements. Another couple from Czechia was even harder to beat for the Wolfs. Katerina Fialova und Radek Vercak are dancing the same style as Roman Kolb does - they obviously have gone throught the same shool. They are dancing precicely and with lots of power - their foottechnique was a real firework and made them first in this discipline.
An other "old fellow" performed in Bremen with a new partner: Vjacheslav Khlopkov, who had danced very successful for the last years with Elena Roukosoueva, is now dancing with Olga Bereza.

Hated program

A new element in the contest was introduced in this European Championship. In the so called Short Program the couples have to dance four given acrobatics in a given sequence. The acrobatics are selected from a list of acrobatics at least a vew hours before the competition. The Short Program is done after the foottechnique. Not everybody liked the short program as new part of the contest, as "the entertainer" Markus Priester found out by asking the couples. The audience the short program with a small majority, but the couples - at least those who understood the question - where not very positive about it.

Beate Wolf was one of those who did not like the short program. What a pitty, because from our point of view the restrictions of the short program made it much easier to compare the performances of the couples, and it showed at least on thing very clearly: how beautiful the Wolfs are doing acrobatics. The accident from the World Championships in Berlin is surely not forgotten, but they have worked it out. They Wolfs showed an acrobatic program without any mistakes and were clearly the best couple among the seven finalists in Bremen.

Swinging Bremen

In the early afternoon 32 couples had started in Bremen to qualify for the next rounds. The fans and audience had a good time, especially the fans from Sweden and Belgium had lots of fun. Markus Priester made the entertainer in his well known professional way, and the organization of the event was done by the Bremen clubs very well. There was no Showprogram this time, but the first German Swing-Cup was held in the evening. It was a mixture of Boogie-Woogie, Lindy Hop and some Rock'n'Roll

The last-year-champions were missing

Monica Martinez and David Felip were not able to compete in Bremen. Like Claudia Heckers and Heico Bartsch, the current World Champions, they had to stay at home due to injury. Some other well known couples were missing also, like Dinara Bedretdinova and Andrej Bardanov, Zuzana Kordacova and Petr Kordac, Irina Tretjakova and Oleg Kustov or Martha Ventura and José Tornero. Daniela Vario und Stefano del Veneziano from San Marino, who had also reached the finals at the WC 1998, were able to join the last seven couples at the EM again. The Slovak couple Dasa Danihelova and Peter Olej had really bad luck. An injury during in the acrobatics program stopped them.
